This old fart’s top entertainment story of the day is about a story that just makes my darn blood boil. Welsh pop icon, Duffy, released her last album “Endlessly” almost a decade ago, and then just ‘disappeared’ from the music scene. And, no one knew why until just recently.
Celebrities Are Often Targeted
You see, it turns out that she was a victim of the dark side of public popularity, “raped and drugged and held captive over some days” by one of those who hunt and set their sights on celebrities, and waited so long to share her pain Duffy because she “did not want to show the world the sadness” in her eyes.
Unfortunately celebrities of all kinds are assaulted, and way too often. Tragically, sometimes they even lose their lives. Now I reckon that this is great news for the bodyguard business, as the rich and famous pay the big bucks to protect themselves and their assets. And because the safety needs are different for every celebrity, price tags range massively depending on popularity, location, travel, lifestyle, family size, jewelry, wardrobe and property size.
Vandalism And Theft Of Celebrity Property Is More Common Than We Hear About
Unfortunately, many new celebrities do not understand the need for personal protection until they are the victim of a criminal act or someone trying to do them harm. Case in point: Taylor Swift had a scary run in with a stalker in early 2018 after a man traveled over 1,000 miles to Swift’s home carrying a knife, rope, ammunition and gloves. Luckily, the man was arrested and charged before any harm was done, because it’s highly unlikely he was coming over to build her a clothesline and protect her from predators.
The Best Personal Protection Is Always Awareness
Yep, this old fart hates to admit it, but show business ain’t just all glitter and glamour, because when its lights land on someone, they become a public target, an opportunity for the sick and demented to crawl out and do their thing. Personally I advise people to listen to the advice of bodyguards, read up on what to do in an emergency situation, and to always be aware of everything going on around you – or as any hockey player would tell you, “Keep your damn head up!”
